Philip Glass, Leonard Cohen
Last night we walked to the nearby Ravinia Festival (a mostly outdoor music venue that hosts the Chicago Symphony and an assortment of other flavors of music during summer months) for a concert by the composer Philip Glass and an ensemble of musicians and singers; the music was inspired by, and the libretto was Leonard Cohen's Book on Longing. Hanging as a partial backdrop was a large white screen onto which drawings by Leonard Cohen (mostly drawings OF Leonard Cohen with an occasional naked girl) were projected during the performance -- the whole thing was quite wonderful. And, in the program was a little book of the libretto, the front and back covers of which are shown here. AWWW. I love it.
