Glencoe’s A.I.R. Gallery announces its inaugural invitation exhibit, welcoming Highland Park painter James W. Lambert. Paired with gallerist Peggy Schutze Shearn, the duo present "MORPHOVERSE,” a magical paint-slathered exploration of what we see – or think we see.

The “MORPHOVERSE" opening event will take place September 12, 2015 from 4-9 pm at A.I.R. Gallery at 348 Tudor Court in Glencoe. From 5-7 pm flautist Julie Koidin will perform improvisations inspired by the artwork. For more information, or to make an appointment to see the show, please call 847-975-9953 or send an email: airstudio348@gmail.com.

Peggy Schutze Shearn is a multi-media artist from Highland Park. She has worked in commercial art, graphic design, illustration and calligraphy, and studied drawing, painting, photography and printmaking. She has an extensive exhibition history within the Chicago area. In her recent paintings, Shearn builds cake frosting-thick surfaces of acrylic gestures that twist and distort. A single word, the point of departure for her mark making, eventually is swallowed and consumed beneath swirling fields of color. Her website can be viewed at: peggyshearn.com.

James W. Lambert, who holds a BFA and a MFA in painting from the School of the Art Institute Chicago, returns to exhibiting paintings after a long career in furniture building and carpentry. His work is an attempt to balance the recognizable with the unknown future. Beginning with a crowd scene cropped from a stock image, the artist builds color using traditional scumble and glazing techniques. The figures in the crowds become less apparent until the works teeter on the edge of abstraction. Words and images gain or lose a particular meaning when set loose in the world of art. They change spots and morph into something unexpected and wonderful. This show attempts to capture those idylls and hold them for viewing, at least for a moment. Lambert’s work can be seen at jwlambertart.com.

“Morphoverse” will be at A.I.R. Gallery from September 12 through October 10.
