HELVETICA

You've seen it even if you don't know you have; Helvetica is a typeface designed 50 years ago in Switzerland that has become ubiquotous in signage (as in New York subway signage and Apple ad show here) and corporate identity; and there is a truly wonderful documentary about the typeface
Helvetica
that has been having a weeklong run at the
Gene Siskel Film Center
in Chicago. The film is so well done, and the designers interviewed speak so articulately and passionately and sometime hilariously about type and design, I'd think even someone not terrribly interested in typefaces would enjoy the film. But then I could just be a type nerd...
